There are moments in life when you realize success isn’t just about what you accomplish, it’s about what you leave behind. For me, that realization led to the creation of the Hands and Minds Scholarship Fund.
Like many people, I’ve spent years working hard to build something from the ground up. I’ve learned that there is dignity in honest work, whether you’re earning a college degree, mastering a skilled trade, or finding another path that allows you to provide for yourself and your family.
Along the way, I also realized that not everyone begins with the same opportunities. Some students have the determination to succeed but face financial barriers that make their goals feel just out of reach. I believe that should never be the reason someone gives up on their future.
That’s why the Hands and Minds Scholarship Fund exists.
The name reflects something I deeply believe: our communities need people who think, create, solve problems, and lead. But they also need people who build, repair, serve, and work with skilled hands. Both are essential. Neither path is more valuable than the other.
My hope is that this organization becomes more than a scholarship fund. I hope it becomes a community that believes in people before they’ve had the chance to prove themselves, encourages them to dream bigger, and helps open doors that might otherwise stay closed.
We’re just getting started, and there’s still a lot to build. But every lasting organization begins with one decision to make a difference.
If, years from now, a student can look back and say they were able to attend college, complete a trade program, or pursue a career because someone believed in them, then every hour spent building this nonprofit will have been worth it.
